The Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, vertically integrated home textile manufacturer with procurement operations in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai. The business supplies major international retailers and is investing in strengthening its fabric supply base across China and Vietnam.
They have asked us to identify a senior fabric sourcing professional to take ownership of their woven fabric procurement - someone who can sit comfortably between the mill floor and the commercial table, and who can lead a team rather than simply manage a buying process.
This is not a transactional purchasing role. It is a chance to shape how a manufacturer sources fabric: which mills it partners with, how it prices and approves supply, how it manages risk when cotton and currency move, and how it builds the visibility needed to trace material from farm through to finished delivery.
What the Role Involves
Own the supplier base. Lead the team in proactively finding and developing mills that outperform the current network - on cost, quality, capacity and innovation - rather than simply renewing existing relationships
Set the sourcing strategy. Build and execute a fabric sourcing plan that covers inventory, vendor approval, pricing and supplier relationships, and that holds up commercially as well as technically.
Run the day-to-day with discipline. Contract terms, lead times, supplier performance and risk are all part of the remit. The expectation is that this person is close enough to the detail to negotiate directly and senior enough to escalate intelligently.
Manage exposure. Raw material and exchange-rate movements are a real cost lever in this business. The role carries responsibility for monitoring cotton, man-made fibre and dye pricing alongside currency risk, and for turning that into practical purchasing-timing and negotiation advice.
Build the data backbone. The business wants a robust system linking supplier master data with fabric properties, so material can be tracked from cotton farm to mill through production to delivery. The successful candidate will not just use that system - they will help shape it.
Work across the business. Fabric decisions affect costing, lead times and quality. This role works closely with commercial and production teams to reduce fabric cost, shorten lead times and protect quality, and with suppliers to bring genuinely new capability into the product range.
Who We Are Looking For
A textile, industrial engineering or supply chain graduate, or equivalent technical grounding, with at least 10 years in fashion and apparel and 5+ years in sourcing within a sizeable organisation. Home textile exposure would be welcomed but is not essential.
Genuine woven fabric expertise - someone who can read a construction, judge a finishing issue, and hold their own with mills. Familiarity with mills across different regions of China is important.
A track record in supplier development and cost negotiation, not just supplier administration.
Team leadership experience, and the credibility to manage stakeholders from factory level to senior management.
English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and willingness to travel to Mainland China and Vietnam as needed.
A practical, change-positive mindset. This is an environment where the sourcing model is evolving, and the role requires someone who initiates rather than waits.
