Title : Senior Fullstack Engineer
Department Overview
The Global Ad Technology Department (GATD) manages the whole of the advertising systems that power Rakuten.
We are a cross-functional and data-driven organization working together in a diverse team spread across five countries: Japan, Singapore, India, China and UK.

About the team
GATD provides services on a comprehensive advertising platform, and its customers include Rakuten Ichiba stores, major companies operating in Japan and overseas, and foreign-affiliated companies.
Our team, Business Operation Support Group (BOSG), develops and operates the core business systems used by in-house sales and business teams (CRM, order and revenue, billing, accounting integration, and data integration).
We support the sales promotion activities and advertising campaigns of these customers from the IT technical side. The team has members in Japan and China (Dalian).
In this team, you can learn a wide range of services and data deployed throughout the Rakuten Group,
as well as internal business system development that supports the corporate advertising business.

Why We Hire
We are now accelerating the growth and productivity of Rakuten's advertising business.
As part of this, we are replacing our current billing and reporting system with an in-house web application.
To move this project forward with confidence, we are growing our team. We need good talent to complete assigned development tasks with sufficient quality as a software engineer in our team.
For about the first year after you join, you will mainly work on this migration (matching the current functions, running both systems in parallel, and switching over).
After that, you will work on developing core business systems for the advertising business, including billing and reporting, and on continuously improving existing systems.
Position Details
Work on development projects to meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
Develop billing and reporting web apps and APIs with Java / Spring Boot, including month-end close, PDF output, and integration changes with other systems.
For about the first year after you join, mainly work on the migration for the billing and reporting system replacement (matching the current functions, running both systems in parallel, and switching over).
Add features and investigate incidents in your assigned areas, using Salesforce (Apex), ETL (ASTERIA Warp), Python, Java batch, and similar technologies.
Work proactively with stakeholders and deliver high-quality core business services within deadline and resource limits.
After production launch, take part in operations work, such as monitoring, alert response, incident investigation, and troubleshooting.
Start as a software engineer and step up to system leader (technical lead) over time.
Use AI tools for coding, unit tests, first response to incidents, and clarifying specifications.

Mandatory Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
7+ years of software engineering experience (from design to release and production support)
3+ years of Java web or batch system development
2+ years of frontend development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (including server-side rendered web apps, web apps connected to REST APIs, and SPAs)
Practical skills with Spring-based frameworks, RDBMS (MySQL / SQL Server), Git, Maven / Gradle, and JIRA / Confluence
Hands-on software development experience using an AI IDE (e.g., Cursor), such as implementation, unit tests, incident investigation, and clarifying specifications
Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams such as PMs, engineers, and business stakeholders
Japanese: JLPT N1 level (or equivalent) and fluent speaking
English: able to read documents, hold conversations, and write emails (full business-level fluency is not required)
Preferred Qualifications
Salesforce (Apex): custom development and integration with other systems
ETL / data integration: design, operation, and troubleshooting of file-based flows and scheduled jobs
Java batch: development and operation of large scheduled batch jobs
Python: development and maintenance of batch jobs or web apps (e.g., Flask)
Database table design and data migration: schema design, data migration, and cutover when merging legacy databases into core system databases
Experience migrating legacy business systems
Performance analysis, SQL tuning, and production incident response in batch processing
Integration changes across multiple core systems (data consistency, parallel operation, and migration)
Use of AI tools to make development, investigation, and testing more efficient, or experience joining AI adoption efforts
Experience contributing to technical decisions and supporting build and deploy (CI/CD)
Rakuten advertising or billing domain experience is not required. You can learn it after joining through Confluence, mentors, POCs, and more.

Japanese (Overall - 4 - Fluent), English (Overall - 2 - Intermediate)
