Senior Engineer or Engineer, Automation

Responsibilities

1.Implement and deploy the automated system, including automated workflow scheduling, software programming, liquid handling system operation and robotics integration

2.Maintain existing automation systems and resolve the technical issue

3.Write and maintain scripts and applications to interface with laboratory instruments and robotics platforms via vendor APIs, SDKs, and communication protocols (TCP/IP, serial, OPC-UA, etc.)

4.Design and implement data pipelines to capture, validate, and route experimental data from automated systems to downstream storage and analysis tools such as LIMS, ELN, or data management systems

5.Contribute to exploration and development of AI-enabled and machine learning-driven laboratory workflows, automation enhancements, and decision-support capabilities

Requirements

**Education & Experience**

1.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field; Ph.D. a plus but not required

2.Automation Engineer: 3–5 years of experience in laboratory or industrial automation software development

3.Senior Automation Engineer: 6+ years of experience with a track record of owning and delivering complex automation software systems

4.Experience in a biotech, pharma, or life sciences environment strongly preferred

**Technical Skills**

1.Strong software development skills in Python; experience with C# or C++ is a plus for instrument SDK integration

2.Hands-on experience with laboratory automation platforms (Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman, HighRes Biosolutions, or similar) from the software/scripting side

3.Familiarity with LIMS, ELN, or data management systems and integrating automation outputs into them

4.Experience with relational databases and data pipeline tools for capturing and routing experimental data

5.Comfort with version control (Git), software testing practices, and maintaining production systems

6.Knowledge of communication protocols used in lab automation (serial, TCP/IP, OPC-UA, MODBUS, or similar)

**Other**

1.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Mandarin proficiency is an advantage

2.Able to work collaboratively with both software/engineering and wet-lab scientific colleagues
