Associate Director, R&D Procurement (Discovery & CMC)

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and implementation of sourcing strategies to optimize quality, delivery speed, cost, and compliance while minimize risk

• Create RFXs, review, analyze, and clarify quotations from suppliers; work together with project teams to develop sound sourcing and business recommendations balancing cost, quality, lead-time, and change management in compliance with relevant SOPs

• Lead cross-functional negotiations and execute complex contracts in a timely manner to meet aggressive project timelines. Manage contracts throughout their lifecycle, including change orders and variation/claim management

• Build and manage a specialized, agile supplier network for Discovery, including AI tech platforms, balancing the need for R&D flexibility with corporate compliance requirements.

• Lead and oversee the sourcing of Biologics CMC outsourcing as well as Small Molecules CDMO/CRO services

• Support continuous monitoring and improvement in terms of Quality, Service Level, Time, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) across the entire project life cycle, proactively identifying and facilitating the resolution of issues

• Work with cross-functional SME teams for supplier lifecycle management, including supplier qualification & audit, ongoing monitoring, annual evaluation, performance issue management, and off-boarding

• Maintain overall strategic supplier relationships and act as the primary point of contact for all commercial issues, including internal report-outs summarizing sourcing status, availability, and cost status

• Manage, mentor, and develop the procurement team. Allocate resources effectively, ensuring the team delivers on operational KPIs while developing their category management and negotiation skills.

• Adhere to all procurement and applicable company policies & procedures and perpetually ensure compliance. Implement defined metrics that track the status of all relevant procurement activities and process compliance

• Support business cases for the implementation of new processes, AI and digital procurement tools, and procedures to improve organizational efficiencies

Qualifications:

Master's or Bachelor's degree. Life Sciences, biology, Chemistry, Medical, or related scientific background is preferred.

10+ years of sourcing/procurement experience within the Pharmaceutical industry. Proven hands-on track record in managing and delivering complex, high-value sourcing projects end-to-end in Discovery and CMC (both Large Molecules/Biologics and Small Molecules). Deep understanding of the CDMO/CRO market landscape and relevant R&D industries/markets.

At least 2 years of people management experience

Proficient in English (as working language) and Microsoft office tools, ERP systems. Procurement tools knowledge as an asset.

Good analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead and influence cross functional team.
