The Role
This role will focus on determining the root cause of degradation mechanisms found in lithium-ion cells to optimize long-term cell performance. The candidate will be responsible for implementing existing techniques, developing new techniques, and analyzing test data to rapidly characterize fresh and aged batteries.
Responsibilities
• Contribute to our efforts to better understand lithium-ion battery performance and degradation
• Be a key member of a cross functional team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design of our future products
• Develop electrochemical/chemical tests to analyze battery materials or parameters, refine cell degradation analysis, and improve cell modeling
• Work with air-sensitive materials using a glove box and/or in a dry room
• Interpret and quantify degradation modes of various battery chemistries
• Explore the relationship between manufacturing process and cell performance
Requirements
• M.S. degree above in Electrochemistry or related
• Hand-on laboratory experience in coin cell either through an internship or academic research
• Familiar with the degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials
• Some coding experience preferred (i.e. MATLAB, Python, and/or similar data analysis tool)
• Familiar with chemical analysis techniques for battery materials such as EIS, three-electrode cells (including symmetric cells), etc.
• Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently
• Working level speaking English
